is built around a boundary: what the human eye can perceive, and what it can only infer. Red sits at one end of visible light; ultraviolet lies beyond it. By alternating between these limits, the work creates a flickering field where visibility becomes unstable—where an object is continually rewritten by wavelength and timing.

Two PMA cables carry red laser light toward a hot-glue junction. The junction reads like connective tissue. Under UV illumination, its perceptual status shifts as if another layer briefly becomes available. The red lasers suggest an internal current, like blood, while ultraviolet acts as an indirect revelation: an exposure of what is present but usually unregistered.

The title points to the first cervical vertebra, the atlas, often described as the structure that holds up the skull. Here it becomes an image of first formation: an initial scaffold from which a body can organise. Perceptual thresholds are treated as anatomy—support structures in the dialectic of becoming: sensation, structure, self-recognition.​
